hi guys i have a omega 2.5td which is showing a fault code of 96 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Out Of Range
can any body tell me what this is and how to fix it cheers kevin

try cleaning the egr valve (between black 'turbo diesel' plastics and intake manifold.
They do get gunked up sometimes, particularly if you disobey the maximum 4.5k oil change interval
-
what does it look like, is it easy to spot
-
if the egr valve was blocked would it hamper the performance a little bit because mine is feeling underpowered

If its sticking open it won't be too special.
The poor performance can also cause an erroneous EGR fault on those (as ECU calculates what the EGR is doing, rather than measuring it directly).
Is it a X25DT or U25DT. If X25DT, pull plug on MAF, see if that improves perfromance.

dont no what engine code it is but it 1996 n reg is there away i can find out from the car. also what would i clean the valve with carb cleaner

96 is around the changeover period from U25 to X25.
Easiest way to tell is the X25 has a MAF (can be seen attached to airbox where the pipe to the turbo comes from, with a wire running from it)

Oh, and paint stripper make be more successful of the EGR I would have thought :-/

it must be the early type it has no maf. do i need to take the egr valve apart to clean inside. is the egr valve the thing thats on the top right hand corner of the head

See the plastic bit with turbo diesel at the front?
Follow it right, then you see there is a short (3") rubber pipe going towards engine. This rubber pipe connects to EGR.
Remove the turbo diesel plastic bit
Undo the 2 bolts that connect a stainless steel pipe to left side of EGR
Remove the small rubber vac pipe from bottom.
Undo 4 bolts that hold egr to intake manifold (the bit long metal bit that stretches from egr to back or enginebay)
