Title: omega,hissing problem

hi all,new to all this.bought a 98 omega cd 2.o about for weeks ago and am really happy with it.all gadgets and engine work fine.my only problem is when i turn engine off i get a hiss sound under the bonnet.this only lasts about 2 seconds and sounds a bit like a lorrys airbrake.any answers would be apprecitated.

Sounds like a vacuum leak mate :y

welcome,youv,e joined a great forum mate, just one thing, what model have you. you may have to add it to your profile in order to get the correct advice. my diesel makes a noise when engine stops.  :y :y

Sounds more like self levelling suspension compressor venting to me. The vent is abehind the driver's side head light.

thanks for your replys,had another quick look and still cant find the leak,i can sometimes hear a slight hiss when accelerating but dont hear it when cruising.the car does still pull and run fine.again thanks for replys so far

Doubt it has that on a cd spec, but that was my first thought too. Would suggest air leak of some kind from either the vacuum or the plenum.

vac leak, 100%

there is a routing map in maintenance section, pay special attention to large vac pipe from plenum where it rubs on the bulkhead, and any small 3 to 4 mill black plastic plpes that may not be conected.

as was mine, just noticed its a 4pot not the v6 i was talking about, arse! But still vac leak surely?

yes ime, changed plugs leads and dis on another members 2.5, it was running on 4 with no vac, sounded like a scooby, flat as a pan cake with a very audible hiss, busted vac tank and worn through vac pipes in numrous places. It flew when fixed, not that Mr Daisy noticed.

hi all,just a update to my hissing problem,just incase anyone else ever has the same.took into garage,it was gasket in the air inlet manifold.car working nice with no hissing,thanks to all who replyd.
