Car has just come off being charged as I let it get flat through non use.
Thing is the key won't turn to let me start it now. It was Ok last night as I started & ran the engine while it was charging but now it just won't budge. The auto is in park and all the lights on the dash are coming up as normal. Seems loads of power as the hid lighting is coming up nicely and the central locking has definitive clunks. Can't wok this one out unless the ignition lock has buggered up somehow.

Try again but with the key pulled about 1-2mm out from fully inserted.
-
No luck, it just feels like it's locked solid. A bit like when the gear stick is out of park or neutral.
-
WD40 mate, drop or two in, drop or two on the key and give it 10 mins.....

Have you inadvertantley engaged the steering lock? to check if you have try to turn the steering wheel a litttle in either direction and see if the key turns in the lock.Just a possibility. :y
-
Sterring lock not on as I can click that into place and it comes off easily. Will give the wd40 a go.
-
Ok,not a problem.I hope the wd sorts it for you. :y
-
Check it is in park fully and hold the brake pedal down, I know the later autos need both in order to start.

Tried all these things with no luck. I think the barrels gone as it feels sloppy too, key turns quite a bit either way in normal ignition mode. Should be interesting. Never had to do one of these before.

Stripped it apart today. The end of the barrel had snapped off which was a bit of a pain as I had to strip the switch assembly off to get the broken bit out.
I'm going to get a new one and strip it and fit my levers so I don't have the hassle of 2 keys. Vauxhall want £70 for the privelage but can get a new barrell for £15.00.
It's a messy job but seems quite easy. Had a go at stripping the old barrel and rebuilding and it went OK.

Result.
You seem to have sussed what goes where inside the barrel, just strip it in an organised manner & you'll be right. I've made barrels fit my key a couple of times over the years. ;)

All sorted as far as the key problems. The locater peg at the end of the barrel was completely sheared off. Swapping over the levers to a new one (£15 on ebay) was a easy job.
However, I thought I'd try it to make sure all was good while car was in bits. Apparently doing this with the srs detached is not a good thing and now it's all back together the light comes on as normal. When you start the engine it goes off and then comes back on a few seconds later. I assume this menas it's OK but needs re-setting. Pain in the bum!!
