Title: Struggling to Start and Engine Temperature
Post by: Homer_S on 05 March 2010, 07:18:20
Hi Everyone

Had the Omega a week now, still happy with it but a few problems to solve.

Firstly it struggles to start in the morning, or when cold. Worse this morning due to the frost. It fires up eventually and runs great but I had to turn it over for quite a while to get it going. Any ideas?

Secondly the other evening I noticed the temp gauge goes up to the next mark after 95 - sometimes a little over it. After a while the fans cut in and it goes down again. Is it normal for it to go this high? or should I start looking at temp sensors/fan switch, or something else?

Cheers

Mark

check the temp sensor just before the MAF, may need cleaning or replacing but cost less than a £5, temp dose go up that hight as long as it gose down again should be fine if gose in to the red would worrie but its fine.

Dont go changing parts on the off chance...just adding unknowns...

Have you done a paperclip test to check for codes?  these will often point you  in the right direction. (maint guide index will tell you how)

temperature fluctuations sound normal enough (check the faq section index for a post about it)

checking the battery voltage may be a good idea...could just be the battery is struggling, these are always worse in the cold.

links to both the above in my signature  :y

Thanks Guys.

I had seen the post about temp fluctuations but just wanted to check its OK for it it go that high, was sat waiting for the Mrs outside a shop the other night for about 20 mins. Watching the needle go up and down. Never went much above the mark after 95 and alway came down again. Main reason for asking is that the temp needle on my Discovery never ever moves once warmed up so am not used to seeing that!!

Battery seems fine, does not seem to struggle to turn over but it wont fire. I will check the battery tough.

Now I have to try and find a paperclip......

Thanks again.

Mark

we have 2 omegas....one is rock steady, the other fluctuates, especially when not moving. both normal.
