Title: Coolant temprature 2.5 diesel
Post by: abtfinman on 02 March 2010, 19:57:56
Hi All
Sorry if this has been covered before but I seem to have lost the search facility.

Firstly may I thank everyone who has posted "how to" guides, they really are invaluable.

Using the advice here I have cured my overheating 2.5 diesel by changing the thermostat and water pump. The plastic impeller really was in a bad way.

The car is running well but I am a little concerned about the coolant temprature showing on the gauge.
It reads just over or just under the 95 mark. Is this where it should be or have I stilll got a problem.

Thanks in anticipation

Alyn

It should run normally at around the 92 mark on the gauge.
Approx mid point on the scale.

Please see FAQ section for running temps.  It is not possible to say it should run at x degrees, as it varies depending on age ;)

Thank you all.

The photograph in the FAQ section shows a temprature gauge in exactly the position mine shows when running.

When I removed the water pump the impeller was virtually in bits. Did not have enough pieces to say I had the whole lot.

Does the plastic wear away or indeeed melt over the years?

No, the broken bits of imellor tend to find a place in there to live out their life. Often possible to get some bits out by reverse flushing it with pump and stat out.
