how do i change the steering idler on a 2000 elite

Easy enough job (well it was because even I have done this one). Trouble is it was a right pain to get off, plenty of brute force with a heafty lump hammer. There's not enough room to swing the hammer though, unless you've got it on a ramp.
It'll give in eventually though.

A bit of plus gas and hitting both sides simultaneously by using two hammers helps.

More comenly known as "The ball joint from hell"
Lots of lube spray. if it wont come off then spray loads of rust eater / lube stuff (wd40) leave it over night and have a go in the morning. it should then come off very light.

do also remember to check the length of the new idler - there are different lengths available
