Old chestnut I know but would like to sort this 1 out before I get attacked by the neighbours.
Last 2 mornings at various times the alarm??has gone off for no reason.I have checked the usual culprit the bonnet button and that is making contact and being depressed by the bonnet when closed.
The noise the alarm is making is just like a standard horn being pressed over and over and last for about 30 seconds and then stops and the indicators continue to flash for some time after.
As I have never really understood what noise the alarm should make can somebody who has a correctly functioning system just confirm that this horn noise is correct as have read something about a siren ??
Several questions arise if I indeed have a problem with it.
1)..buy a new unit and swop the lot over
2)..disconnect the lot and hope for the best
3)..have seen mention of batteries being replaced.
don,t want to go that route as appear difficult to source.
4)..get a second hand from breaker and hope for best.
Any advise on the above much appreciated.

Had similar problems with My 2000 Omega recently, alarm sounding at odd times for no reason. Following advice from other forum members I disconnected the power sounder, took it apart and sure enough batteries were fubar'. However I left the power sounder disconnected but the horn alarm (as opposed to siren) still works if I lift the bonnet when car locked. My understanding is the siren activates when the car battery is disconnected and not when the car is bashed or broken into. I may be wrong and would defer to those who know more. Hope that helps.

A further thought Rob.G has suggested in response to another post today under the heading "car alarm" that if you reach in thru the back door and press the button on the drivers door the car is locked but the alarm is NOT set.
Could get you out of trouble with the neighbours whilst you investigate a solution. A useful 'gem of info from Rob.G !

Still never really got a conclusive answer on what noise the alarm should make ?
as above mine sounds like a standard car horn on/off for about 30 +seconds then indicators continuing to flash.
Is that correct or should a "siren" sound aswell/instead.
