Title: Strange Starting Problem
Post by: Richard A on 04 March 2010, 18:08:41
This is thrown open to the 'forum'.
In an effort to sort my V6 starting problem two 'well respected' OOF member suggested I 'floor the throttle' (cutting of the injectors) then turn the key and allow the engine to turn over for a few seconds.
Attempted this six times, every time the engine "fires" and would of reved it's boll---- off.
Question: Is this itself a fault, maybe an insight into the 'starting problem' ???
Please help, it's driving me mad, engine never been run smoother.  :-/

AFAIK with WOT (wide open throttle) then the system should NOT fire ... injectors are turned off.

Given your other problems I just wonder if your DBW throttle is not recieving/sending the right info to/from the ECU.

It would appear that the accelerator/throttle/ecu information are not quite aligned .. what the fix is other than cleaning the throttle body is I have no idea .. :(

You are right .. confusing this with another member .. :(

Actually might make it easier if its a 2.5 I guess .. throttle cable need adjustment ?? If its not giving a WOT signal it might be a tad undertight ?? and if its not at the correct position at WOT is it right at "start" ???

Have you tried another AIT sensor Richard?

Thanks, Ok, at the same time as the 'cam belt' was replaced, plenium was moved to replace the spark plugs, plus the throttle & cruise control cables were disconnected,
who should/can they be adjusted ??

Glad they're OK ;) Let me get my "My Naff Code Reader" set up and we'll have a play if you're not sorted by then :y

EDIT: I'll adjust your throttle cable as well ;)

Sent PM, many thanks.
Found the section in Haynes, disconnected, cleaned adjusted, things the same.
It's as if there is something not connecting on the first turn off the key, but as said always starts on the second attempt !!
Anything else I can try ??

The test with the throttle checks if the injectors are weaping fuel (which is not un-common).

The fact its firing sudgests fuel is present in the intake track.....

So the first course of action is to run a strong dose of injector cleaner through.

I here what you say, however it doesn't just fire, on all six attempts it starts on all 6 cylinders and would of bounced the needle of the rev counter given the chance.
On normal start it's as if on the first turn of the key there a 'break' in the electrics which is telling the ECU not to allow the engine to start, but that in turn clears the system for the second turn of the key - engine always starts on the second turn.
Traveled 850 miles last week, no other problem  :-/ :-/
