Just bought OY02 VTL from Simon at trade price, with the issues known...so I'm most definitely not grumbling about the issues at all, just trying to work out what to do with it now.
OY02 VTL is an Omega 3.2 manual, I intend to use it as my run about so would appreciate any advice.
When it's first started from cold, there is no missfire or judder, however once up to operating temp the idle is all over the place bouncing around a bit and the emissions light illuminates.
And when driving back from Poole to Oxford the temp guage was reading about 75, when in traffic it would approach 90ish.
Pedal trick provides codes 0300, 0301 and 0305...so that tells me missfire on cyl 1 and 5. Which I'm pleased about, was half expecting it to be either 2-4 or 6, on the side I can't bloody well get to.
So I think I can remove the 1-3-5 coil pack and take a look.
However, this vehicle also failed it's MOT on emissions, the lambda was too high...could this be due to the missfire on the 1-3-5 bank, or would a new lambda sensor be in order?

Could a dead stat be affecting anything other than runnig temperature, I'll take 1-3-5 out and see what I can see tomorrow, but any other advice?

75 is cool, and indicative of a knackered stat but wouldn't say it's causing the other issues. Key is the condition of the 1,2,5 bank ignition components IMHO. Plugs,coil packs, cam cover gaskets. :y
Once the misfire has gone, see if there are any new codes.

The knackered stat can cause all sorts of problems ;) ;)
But... Cure the missfire, replace the stat and check for exhaust leaks before worrying about the lambda readings :y :y

Thank you Kevin and Paul, I'll take a look at 1-3-5 and see what's what. I do have a spare 1-3-5 coil pack so will put that on if I can find no oil in the plug wells.

Fact its fine when cold, and the fact I've seen the car, I reckon more and more lamda that side...

So (wishful thinking) would it be as simple as replacing the lamda sensor on the 1-3-5 bank, or is that a too simplistic view?

I've had a look at the 1-3-5 bank today, taken coil pack out and replaced with a known working one to eliminate that. No oil in plug wells, and appeared bone dry. Slight discolouration is cyl5, looked like a rusty colour, but quite faint.
So, is the next course of action to replace the lamda sensor?

From reading posts by both Hotel21 and Mark DTM in the common issues and FAQ it appears that the lambda sensors are pretty reliable, and a possible explanation can be an exhaust leak...so I guess the best bet is to get it up to running temperature and wait for the missfire, jack it up or take it to a 4 post lift and look for an exhaust leak on the O/S 1-3-5 side.

Seems like that's the next step then, hoping the lamda has failed, although doubtful as I'd rather replace that than a cat or other front section part.

No worries... The leak may well (and most likely will) be in the mid section.
Unfortunately, I doubt it will cure the miss fire, which still needs looking into :(

Lambda reading too high indicates a lean condition. An air leak upstream of the lambda sensor would cause it to run rich so my feeling is that it'll be the lambda sensor, but worth a check anyway.
