Hi ... my aircon has seemingly stopped working ... i know the compresor wont kick in below 5 degrees or so but there have been a few days when its been above that ( 8 or even 9 degrees ;D ) and still it wont come on :-/
Anyway do any of the northern members know of or can recommend a good mobile service .... i have checked online but i cant seem to find any mobile a/c specialists in my area . I did have a regas at kwik fit last year in september but dont really fancy going again if it only lasts 6 months.
Thanks :y :y

The one I go to in Newcastle (acr) is an air con specialist. Not just cars, but alsn buildings. Possibly you will find similar up there.

If you suspect there's a problem then it's a good idea to use them. The deal is, if it doesn't work, you don't pay.
Most A/C specialists will charge for any work they do.
Kwik-Fleece don't do repair work at the moment, although apparently this may be changing shortly (Oh dear !!), but at least you'll know for free if there is a problem and then you can go to a specialist.
Used them myself when mine stopped working last week. They showed me there was no pressure in the system at all, so I have a leak.
Called in at an A/C specialist on the way home. They had a quick look and spotted some UV dye on a sensor chamber below the lower valve (r/hand viewed from front of car).
Have you checked that the clutch on the front of the compressor is still there ?
My A/C stopped working last year and I found that my clutch had gone AWOL.
Used the clutch off my spares car and all was fine, well, until the system sprung a leak last week. :(

mate, sounds like low pressure, most garages will do aircon. get them to top it up, and have a look for a leak, its a simple job, i do it for £65 for a full regas and leak test. but im 550 miles away so cancel me out! just google car aircon and the name of your nearest town.
failing that, most aircon and refrigerations firms will have a guy in the team who has the car aircon adaptors, worth a call about local companies i would.
dont go to quick fit, as they will ram some gas in for £40, then when it leaks they arent interested.

When the engine is running the very front part of the aircon unit isnt turning ... the pulley the belt is on is turning but the very front part isnt ( i dont know if its supposed to or not as ive never noticed before )
I have googled for car air con repair in my region but doesnt seem to find anyone .... i used my daignostic toy a few weeks back on it and it said the Air con cut of was active but i assumed this was because it was only just above freezing outside .

Ok i just been out and had a look ... the front part of the unit i can turn by hand.... so is this the clutch , if so then it is still there :y

The clutch should energise when the A/C is turned, providing the low pressure cut out is happy ie is there enough refrigerant in the system.

I have no idea .... my diag toy doesnt say if there is any pressure ... im hoping its just needing gassed but then its gassed just 6 months ago so im assuming its got a leak somewhere

Quite likely ..... on both accounts ;)

Nope, you're not alone mate, just don't know of anyone to recommend.

Not quite right. The Kwik-Fleece system is quite a basic set up but it will not re-gas if a leak is detected.
If after the pressure test, all is ok, then it proceeds with charging the system with gas and the specified shot of oil.
If there is a problem, it won't re-gas, you pay nothing...and next stop is a specialist to get it fixed. :y
Mind you, this is the only time I ever use Kwik-Fleece. ::)

have you tried halfords for a diy kit I think they cost about £16.00 and it comes with an adaptor as longs as it says R134A on the tin :y

Ok on a slightly different note ... where the car is normally parked there is appearing a little puddle of what i can only describe as a clear greasy feeling liquid ... this is right under where the compressor is .... so what colour is the aircon fluid/gas ??..... i always assumed or thought it was a gas :-/ ...
-
........ i always assumed or thought it was a gas :-/ ...
Depends where in the system it is, sometimes it's a gas (in the compressor) and others it's a liqued (in the evaporator) and in other bit's it's going from a gas to a liqued in the ...... condensor :y :y
A/C specialist usually put a green/yellow dye in so you can see if owt's leaked. You can't easily miss the colour of the dye.
-
Kwik fit did it the last time and after speaking to them they say they dont use a dye :-/
