The 300 mile round trip to collect the Westfield kit was bad enough in one of those. It'll be a struggle staying awake, I'd say. Drink lots of coffee! Despite the guy at the hire place saying mine was a turbo diesel one as opposed to NA and that it went "like a rocket" I doubt a 55 MPH limiter would have made much difference >:( And it was virtually unloaded. 650Kg of car minus the wheels, engine, gearbox, diff, suspension uprights, calipers, seats,...

Have a safe journey and tell yourself it'll be more fun in the Omega next time!

Kevin

LOL - I was hearing the saga of not being able to use the LDV from the ABS lot last night.  I tried not to laugh. Honest ;D

Hope the services are hooked up by the time you get there.

If your back in the UK first week of Jan, hope to see you at the pub, if not before :y

Thanks guys for all the wishes of good luck,
would like to record for posterity that if i ever had to do that journey again IT WOULD NOT BE IN A SPEED LImITED TRUCK!!!! I would rather do the trip twice in a smaller van cos it would be a lot easier,
ok got off thr boat in France and set off at a sedate 55mph thinking it would not be to bad  and 15hours later had just reached Bordeaux!!!! couple of hours kip and fired the beast up again and just plodded on and on and on and on and 12hours later we werejust down the mountain from our destination, collapsed over the steering wheel for a well deserved kip but woke up an hour later as stiff as a board so just drove on up, so 29 hours after getting off the boat we had arrived  spent the next three days getting the place right and all our gear where we wanted it, reluctantly left wed at 4 oclock in the after noon and got to calais at 0130 friday morning after driving through severe snow storms  in the sierra nevada mountins and howling winds that were strong enough to fold the mirrors back in, got stopped by the gendarmerie at rouens for a spot check, and more snow storms through france thern thick fog last 20 mies to calais,  took the 02.10 ferry and arrived in uk at 4am drove home emptied the truck cleaned the interior and took it back to the hirer a day and a half early with 6500 more kms on it than it had when we started , and because it was returned a day and a half early got a sizeable refund on the price  After i had the money returned to my account i told just how much of a piece of crap his renault 7.5 ton truck was  drove home and slept for over 14hours with only a peebreak to wake me up!!
so back for now and we move out there in early january !!!

Glad to hear you made it ok.  55mph would be a grind :(

thats stating it mildly, it was pergatory :o cos it would do it down hill as well as it used the automatic exhaust brake to slow itself down when going down hill, arrrggghhhh ::) after the first time it did it i kept knocking into neutral, whereupon an alarm would sound and a message would flash up on the dash shouting maximum speed exceeded!!! and the blooming alarm wouldnt shut up till it got back to 55mph!!!!
