Title: Identify part & what to do
Post by: johncol on 18 March 2010, 14:10:59
hey all - thought it was all over for the 2.0l auto miggy today, smoke from engine, desperate smell etc. Found a burst hose leading from this (see pic) down into the depths of the engine block. Whilst im not the most knowledgable on engines, this filter maybe? is fairly covered in crusty oil gunk, as is the pipe leading from it. I can replace the hose, any advice on replacing, cleaning this.
Thanks

ahh, the old firetrap.

guess you need to give all the breathers and throttle body a good clean too.

Part of the breather system, it`s located rear of block pass side. Give your breathers a damn good clean using carb cleaner and soak the firetrap with gunk/carb cleaner and clean as best you can or replace. Guide in maintenance section. I`d check plugwells for oil as well, with that crud build up you`re camcover gasket is probably on the way out as well

thanks fella's I did the IACV clean about 6 months ago, due again so. Is there a some kind of filter located inside the fueltrap, or is my one just full of gunk?

Just replace the breather box. Price on the box is £9.18 + VAT and a couple of pipes @ £2.42 each + VAT

Cheers
Andy

Including the metal pipe that comes up from the block to this item?  If the rest of the breather system was mucky, then this bit surely will be too.

If not, it's worth doing that too.  Access to the two bolts that hold it onto the block isn't ever-so easy, but not horrific.

Gasket/seal is pennies from Vx.
