Hi All,
I seem to have a vibration under light braking, nothing dramatic, just a slight shudder through the car. Seems to disappear when braking hard and brakes work fine as ever. All the wheels are balanced, alignment OK etc, only happens under braking. Pads and disks are OK (in terms of wear, anyway). Any ideas?

warped disc maybe, thought you would feel it worse when braking harder though.

You may have a an uneven buildup of material on the disc, or you may have overheated a "spot" on the disc .. actual "warping" of discs is extremely rare..
have a read here ..

it "may" be possible to recover the disc by following this ..

(last paragraph explains why)

you may have some issues with the caliper sliders, try removing, greasing and re-fitting.
it is possible to measure the disc to see if it is warped.
Unfortunately, I've found the brakes in general, and front disc setup in particular to be very unreliable, but then again most of my cars see track use. I rarely get more than 300 miles out of front discs before they warp under these circumstances. Mind you, this isn't that much of a drama because they are cheap to replace.
the major cause of vibration on these cars is, i have come to believe, poor ageing of the caliper sliders, combined with a short brake lever radius, allowing vibrations to build up around the front strut axis. Once a vibration is started, it's very difficult to get rid of without renewing the discs.
stick only to "Ate" brand (Continental-Teves) for the discs.

Thanks all, much appreciated as always. :)
