Title: Rattling Door Pins Quick Fix
Post by: RichardH on 10 November 2009, 10:06:49
Having listened to my door lock pins rattling for the last few months I decided to try and quieten them down before they drove me crazy.

I hope this quick fix can help anyone else out there with the same problem and it only takes about five minutes.

The first step is to lever out the red tab on the locking pin.  I used a small precision screwdriver to do this.  The red tab does not have to be removed completely.

To remove the pin just pull straight up.

Wrap a piece of insulating tape around the base about two or three times and trim the excess from the bottom.

Replace the pin and push the red tab back in.  Repeat the procedure for all four lock pins and that should be it.

Thanks for that Richard. Last time I did it I took the door cards off although I was replacing the speakers at the same time. I completely understand how this little thing can drive you crazy. The other way of getting rid of this is by turning up the volume on your stereo  ::)

Actually stopped raining for 5 mins earlier, so was able to do this on mine - three layers of tape was too much, two was just right - worked a treat  :) Cheers!  :y :y

Thought at factory they had a small bit of felt glued in channel to stop the rattle?

If I am remembering correctly, my pre-facelift had this strip of felt, but the none of the 3 facelift’s I have had since then had any.  I have had the rattling pins on all three facelifts.
