Hello again folks,my 2.6 mv6 seems to be revving up alot recently, esp when i come to road ends or pulling in to my driveway, doesnt matter when hot or cold.It usually revs up to around 2500/3000 revs and sits like that until i ride the clutch etc,i have recently cleaned out the throttle bodies(which were not overly bad) and no difference, what is the electrical unit on side of throttle body and is it possible to open it and clean it also, any help appreciated as it doesnt seem to be as quick as usual.Cheers

Have you cleaned your icv? ( if you have one.)
check that it is not pulling in any extra air, ie split or worn pipe.
-
I think the first port of call would be to do the pedal trick, to see if any codes are present. That would give you a good base to start from :y
-
i have acces to a snap on scanner,it only ever reads up fuel trim malfunction which is due to cats being removed, the car has only recently started doing this, does anyone know where the idle valve is on a 01 2.6mv6,i have also checked vacuum pipes etc and they seem ok

what is the electrical unit on side of throttle body and .....
Not sure of the correct term, but it's the motor that does the opening of your throttle, the DBW throttle 'talks' to it. :y :y :y

would dirty egr valve cause this? or does anyone know where the idle valve is located, cheers

Definitely not on your car! ::)

I've tried to find pictures of the differences, I'm sure they're there somewhere. EGR when fitted is on the driver's side of the plenum, IACV is on the other side. :y :y :y. Both items dropped with DBW. ;)

Still revving up at times, gonna try cleaner the breather pipes at weekend
-
Time ago I experienced erratic idle. Discarded ICV, etc, finally it was due to a defective ECU temp sensor.
-
also tried cleaning the breather pipes and no avail, doing my rather head now,no codes present, have tried a bottle of engine treatment in the tank today, hope this helps, anyone any ideas....cheers

Has anyone got Tech2 or "My Naff Code Reader" in NI who can look at live data for you?
When SWMBO got a Golf last year it had similar symptoms. I spent ages checking for air leaks before getting a tool to read live data which told me that the throttle wasn't closing when it should.
Turned out that some clown had glued a sliver of wood inside the throttle motor to prevent it closing properly. This had been done to mask a stalling problem caused by a faulty temperature sensor >:(
Removed the wood, replaced the temperature sensor and cleaned out the breathers and order was restored :y
I would start by checking that there isn't a problem with the brake servo or the vacuum pipe. I can think of other things it might be (temperature sensor, throttle motor) but it doesn't make sense to swap things unless they are known to be faulty.
