Title: Gearbox problem
Post by: Hannah Judes Dad on 24 March 2010, 21:59:27
My car has started chugging along to say the least tonight, then it went into a false neutral and revved at about 3000 rpm while freewheeling then regained its gears. The MID then said Automatic Gearbox with the word 'check' illuminated on the display. Please say it is something easy to fix. Thanks in advance folks  :y

I'm to rotund to get under the car and don't have any ramps either  :(
Is it worth going to my local Hi Q for them to check it? or will they rob me blind?

Should the engine be in park or neutral when doing the check or won't it matter ?

Your engine should be running, and your gearbox should have just been cycled through the gears & then checked in either P or N  :y

Well this morning was 'interesting' the car started as normal but no error messages on the MID  :)
Went to Hi Q anyway to see about them doing the atf to be given the reply "We don't do transmission fluid changes on automatics because there may be an airlock when we refill it' WTF  :D
