Is it possible to raise the tickover very slightly in my 3.0V6 estate (1999) as the tickover is slightly below 500 revs, and runs so much better at 550ish. Also, it appears to engage drive better at 550 for some reason???
TIA Mike. :y

ECU controlled.

That being the case, Rob, it it safe to assume that because my exhaust is blowing like a pig and it drastically needs a service (which is all being done first week after I get paid.....) that it will run better and tick over right?
Cheers!

Tick over is ECU controlled but is it possible to alter the tick over speed with Tech2 or the like as mine is a bit high, around 780rpm warm and around 900rpm warm with the A/C on. It's always been the same and the breathers and ICV are all clean and no vacum leaks.
These engine speeds have been measured more than once so it's not a case of the rev counter reading wrong :y

Blimey!! must "chunk" into gear at those revs if its an auto box!!
Mine ticks over more smoothly and doesn't "chunk" at 550, but DOES "chunk" at 500.............strange.

It has it's moments :)

It is normal for the 3.0 to tick over at 500 - 550 rmp without a/c on.
you might be able to alter the tick over on the gas cable ( if you have one ) I believe there is also a small screw there that you can move to alter it.

the box should handle a few rpm differance when selecting drive without any problem at all.
If its thumping when engaging gears then box is in need of a service, classic signs!
Is the box behaving normally otherwise? no slipping or excessive reving?

It doesn't really thump into gear, it does make the back squat down a bit with the handbrake on though.
Gearbox works normaly although it may benefit from the software upgrade at some point but i'm not sure what version it has at the moment.

Correct v6 rpm is 450 with ac off and 600 with ac on
