Title: Bonnet Pull
Post by: UrbanFox on 29 March 2010, 10:28:51
It takes two people to open my bonnet on my car.  You have to pull the handle and push down on the bonnet for it to open.

Can it be adjusted or do i need a new cable?

Remove the centre cover on the slam panel - over the radiator - & you'll see the clamp for the cable outer. Slacken the clamp, slide the outer cable within the clamp & retighten  :y
It's not one of GM best designs.  ::)

Nope, but adjusting it is easy peasy! Wish hand brake was just as easy!  ::)

I also got a problem with bonnet opening, but it isn't this.
On mine the handle is loose so I have to pull the complete handle not just turn it  >:(

A couple of points.....Make sure you pull the cable in the direction of the nearside wing....and make sure the bonnet trelease pull handle has been pushed back fully before you begin to adjust via the clamp bracket/screw. If you push the cable in the other direction (towards the offside then there is a real danger of dislodging the retaining pin from the locking mechanism  :'  and you do not want this to happen). There is a good guide available in the maintenance section for adjusting the bonnet release.

I think the pivot pin has come out so instead of levering about the pivot, he has to pull the whole thing to relase the bonnet catch.  :y

One thing to note is that the bonnet will also fail to open if something is slightly pushing up on the bonnet...the thing most likely to do this is the cover over the fuse box in the engine bay to the right of the battery (as you look at it from the front of the car). The catch holding the cover down tends to break causing the cover to lift slightly and jam the bonnet...reseating the cover will help...removing it will be a good test to start with :y
