as said above when my 3.0 MV6 has been running for a while and is up to temp it smells quite hot, i noticed this on my old 2.5 V6 i had a few years ago. There are no oil leaks, even from the rockers, not burning oil and does not smell of burning oil and the water system has recently been flushed and new coolant added. The water temp always stays right in the middle of the scale. Other than this then engine is running absolutely fine just smells hot. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or it is a symptom of something that needs attention.

The car has done 86,000 and has regular oil changes. About every 3k.

Ditto. This concerned me for a while especially as it smelt a bit like burning, but the oil level is still bang on.

Thanks guys for the replies, i was worried as i do not want to have any problems, i tow with the Omega as well so did not want to have any problems because i had not repaired something that was a problem.

Mines the same .........
HOWEVER, having had a number of Omegas from new some years back, I don't ever recall them making that smell at the time and would have had them straight back to the dealership if they had..

Probably nothing to worry about........yet..........it must be coming from somewhere but needs to get a lot worse perhaps before taking action. It doesn't take much oil on a hot pipe to make a huge pong!

I have got no oil leaks at all and it does not smell of burning oil, just like hot metal really, engine temp and water level are fine.

I often get out of the car after a decent drive and can literally feel the heat wafting out from under the car! No smell of oil at all, but can just smell and feel... erm.. heat I suppose?! Cant think of any other way to describe it! :D

water and oil levels are always fine and temp gauge stays where it should!

Both Omegas I have owned have been the same.

My current and past Omega's have all had masses of heat coming from them after a good run.
They are big engines, especially the 3.0 / 3.2's, and just generate lotes of heat from all that lovely power!
It is only when you smell oil that you may have a problem. ;) ;)

Omegas have pretty big cats .. and the 3.2 V6 has 4 of them !! 2.5 only has 2 !!
On a decent run they WILL be very hot .. its what they are designed to do ... when cats first came out there uswed to be warnings about not parking on dry grass as the cats could ignite it !!
This gives quite a "warm draft" from under the car if the wind is in the right direction as you leave.. :)

Well like i said earlier, my old 2.5 CDX used to be the same, i have had this car for about 5 years and it has always been the same. I have got a couple of other cars, a Volvo V70 T5 and that doesn't ever seem that hot even after giving it a good run.
At least i know it is not only my car! :y

entwood has it nailed. I checked mine for the same reason and after getting under it the heat from the cats was enough to toast bread on. If it had been dark I bet they would have glowed!

Thanks bionic i will have a look under mine when it is a bit dryer, i never thought of it being the cats.
