Was having a clean today and saw this under my driverside front bumper.
Looks like an exhaust or something attached to a cylinder.
On a 2.2dti Omega

That is a wesbasto diesel heater.....when its cold outside it burns diesel to heat the coolant up faster

So when does it work??
And is there any way to check it is working...
Also is it a Standard fitment on the Omega?
And does it use much fuel?
Sorry for all the question, just very interested..
Cheers

It was a long way of saying ..... have a look! :y

as said its standard o the 2.2dti, think it kicks in around -1 or 2 degrees, if you have never seen it working it can be quite a worry to see smoke coming from the inner wing area!!!! :y

As OmegaToy says around 1 or 2 degrees. Mine seems to come on more reliably if the air con is turned on before the engine is started (on a cool enough day).
You can hear it running quite plainly from outside the car and will hear reflected sound from it (with window open) whilst driving. It also runs on a little while after the engine has been stopped. Strangly no smoke from mine at all?
It about doubles fuel consumption, but does warm the car up faster. Strange that the handbook does not appear to admit it exists, or even warn of smoke from under O/S front wing?
