Post by: jayten10 on 03 April 2010, 18:13:17
hi,

have just taken a facelift omega 2.6 elite that is using oil, ie the check sign came on dash topped up with oil, now as you drive you can smell the oil burning but there dosent appear to be any leaks visible ,also since putting in oil have noticed a large cloud of white smoke on initial startup any thoughts anyone? :-/

Pop one of the coil packs out and check for oil in the plug wells. The cam cover seals are the most likely suspect.

Where are you Jay?

My old neck of the woods! I used to live just off the Old Bedford Road in 'little Warsaw' :P

I'm 100+ miles away now though. Like I said pop out a coil pack and check the plug wells :y

what age is the 2.6? Early ones suffered from GM's penny pinching finance dept, and had crappy stem seals fitted

As others suggested, check for oil in plug wells, as thats most likely.

The stem seal issue that tunnie mentions shouldn't give a burning oil smell (unless you have your nose up the exhaust ;D)

But it would use oil?

Yup, probably not masses though.  But the engine wouldn't smell of hot oil ;)
