Thanks to the advice from this website i have identified the problem with my auto box as the position sensor/selector unit on the side of the auto box.
When removed today i opened it up and it is in a bad way, needs replacing.
The Car is a 2.2 petrol CDX estate 2001 reg.
Where can i get a new or good second hand unit from?
Thanks in advance.

Post a wanted ad in the test section and ask a mod to move it to the parts for sale/wanted section.

All
Good news and thanks.
We have fitted the new selector and all is well.
Thanks once again to all who helped.
Can any one tell me how to clear the ECU light now?
-
If it's still lit then there's still a problem. You need to get the codes read.
-
The geargox is working perfectly.
Is there any way of clearing old failures and seeing if it comes up again?
The codes were read originally as
P700
P1700
Thanks in advance.

As said. If the EML is on .... there's a problem that's putting it on, if you clear them/it the light will be bcak on again as there's a problem.
-
P0700 is a gearbox control fault and IIRC so is 1700 but those are now irrelivent. They need clearing and re-reading to determine why the EML is back on again. Shame you're so far away, I'd have stuck my "My Naff Code Reader" on for you.

Many thanks for your input.
Can the ECU be cleared down by disconecting the power?
-
Unfortunately not :(

Fault codes that have put the EML on will clear from the ECU's memory all on their own .... when the original fault is fixed.
-
Which one do you call the EML?
The one with the spanner?
Or the other 'engine' light.
The one that came on for this auto fault was the 'engine' one.
-
Spanner illuminates for engine/trans. faults. "Engine block" illuminates for emissions fault
-
Thanks
That makes it strange then, the only light on is the 'engine' one.
When read it gave codes of P700 and P1700.
All this in conjunction with the auto box failure (now done).
No other faults were read??
Any ideas?
