I have a 1999 3.0 MV6 which has done 90,000 miles. I have had a full geometry setup done, but I'm still not happy with it. The place I went to are not willing to make any charges without charging me a fortune as all values are within their tolerances. What do you think to these?

camber on front left 1.4 right 2.0 this will make car pull to left needs to be 1.10 if any thing left side a bit more than right
i.e left -1.12 right -1.10 or there abouts

Get yourself down to WIM, I know its a bit far from Sheffield but very worth it. £60 + vat to OOFers, I'm booked in next week before I go around the country on me hols :y
-
Time to name and shame.....so other members can avoid like the plague.
From what I can see, they have attached an expensive bit of kit and only adjusted the front toe.
I take the view that yes, this kit is expensive and teh charge is more than a standard tracking setup asa result but, I expect the functions of the kit to be used correclty and learly hre you could of saved cash and just had the front toe set!
Front camber needs setting ....this will cause a pull to the left and will wear the inside edges of the tyres (OSF in particular).
Rear toe could be better.

Well if others want to recieve the same level of service I recieved they can go to Challenger tyres in Sheffield. If you would like your car to be just right then try elsewhere.
Mark - was it Fleet Fit in Loughborough you said was good?
Cheers.

£42, and that was meant to include all corrections. However as everything was in the 'green' they wanted to charge that again for each aditional adjustment (and they said that making any further adjustments was a waste of time and would have no effect).

How come WIM are the ONLY people in the whole of Britain that can be trusted with an Omega? Surely other places with any sort of reputation would know, or be able to learn, the geometry set-up? It can't be that hard, surely?

You want to try to get some of them to touch a kit car where they have no settings on their machine (but presented by an owner who knows exactly how he wants it set up)!
They invest a fortune in equipment and equip it with a gibbon that only knows green and red, and how to round off a track rod lock nut with a mole wrench.
Kevin

Yes, you're right - I know of someone who went to have a tyre changed but didn't want the neanderthal doing it to overtighten the nuts, so when he asked him to torque the nuts properly, he did the nuts up with a windy gun then demonstrated that he 'knew' what he was doing by clicking the wrench on the already too-tight nuts... ::)
I still feel that there must be decent garages out there that are capable of learning the set-up and earning themselves a few quid with the equipment they have
-
All this expensive kit is only as good as the person using it!
ATS at Port Talbot have some good kit, but couldn't use it.
I could, but they obviously wouldn't allow that, and after making a hash of one of our vehicles, I flatly refused to pay up. This was even after the threat of calling the Police by the manager, mind you, I made sure that the car was down off the ramp first!
They were lucky that I wasn't charging them for wasting my time!
>:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
I'm happy to follow the experiences of many OOFers, and am planning a trip to WIM meself.
50 quids-worth of diesel is far cheaper than a tyre!

all the comments are very true especially Marks comments my local tyre fitting place have gone on about the cost of there equipment but when i went to have mine done/checked it read all the angles but they said the camber on Omegas cant be done correctly as it is a funny Setup i laughed in there face and turned on my heel and didnt pay a penny so it shows what they know
If they buy this kit they need to be able to use it and iterpret the adjustments needed especially if Joe bloggs say " Can you sort this its pulling to left" if they charge 80 you should get that level of expertise but sadly you dont

There are decent places. All those I have experienced have been independents. ATS / Thick-Fit type places are always a waste of time IME.
You an normally tell, by talking to the guy for 30 seconds about what you want, whether it's going to be worth bothering.
Tony at WIM has the added advantage that he knows the Omega very well, in addition to understanding how suspension systems operate and how that relates to the driving experience.
Very different to the "it's all in the green, mate" approach.

I wish I had the capital (and time) to set up my own business here.
Of this I'm confident: Quality workmanship and happy customers would be paramount.
OOF discounts obviously!
:y
Anyone wanna bankroll me?

My sentiments exactly Kev!
That's my thinking on undertaking the long trek to Chesham.

Yes red and green is absaoutely pants if one side is at the start of the green and other at end of green it would be miles out its because they cant read their own kit they are happy to take your money but give a service thats crap and yes ATS around here is exactly the same absolute brown stuff

My car is much better now after a trip to Fleet Fit in Loughborough (they spent 1.5 hours on it). The readings they got were different to the readings at Challenger, my only guess is that Challenger didn't get their equipment calibrated and treated it badly.
-
Good news :y :y Just up the road from me, will be having a run up to them after the weekend i think

They are very good....booking is essential

I took my car to Chemix in Halesowen, and to be honest felt confident in the work that was done and the car was certainly better.

has anyone used elite in essex for this ? http://www.elitedirect.com/WheelAlignment/Wheel-Alignment.html

I shoudl add that fleet fit also invested heavily in a dedicated ramp which has floating plates for the wheels at the rear and standard disc type setup at the front.
