Title: omega td belt snapped
Post by: philglasgow on 25 March 2010, 09:01:08
hi folks

i was driving to work  this morning when my steering went heavty and batt light came on , i nursed it to the local morrison car park ( my god the steering was heavy)  pulled bonnet  and the small belt i assume that wraps around power steering and water pump had snapped, fair enough ive never changed it  but the serp belt seemed to be hanging free as well  but not snapped..

should this happen ??? i was late for work so had to abandon it and will call recovery tonite.

Any opinions please???

Auxillary belt also does the Aircon...  I think...

All belts fail over time, after all they travel the same distance as the car (at least since it was last replaced)...

I don't think that one is overly difficult to replace, although, it would be worth being both the belts while your at it...

Air con has a separate belt.
I changed the (longer) aux belt for a member recently - got a Gates jobbie for under 20 quid!

If you're looking to do this yourself, PM me your email address, and I'll forward the routeing diagram.

Piece of pi$$ to change, I recently did a 'how to' here:-http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1264071895. It covers belts and tensioner.

Td aux belt does waterpump so don't use without aux belt sorted - you WILL overheat and WILL do damage

Photo often worth 1000 words.  If you are on about the 10mm(??) hex, reckon you'll need the bit - I certainly had to go and buy one (£6 or £7)

Part no 4? Pretty certain its a 10mm hex, available to fit any socket set wrench from most autoshops.

Post by: philglasgow on 04 April 2010, 19:04:15
Hi folks

Im now sorted after more time than i care to admit to this afternoon. A sincere thanks to all who posted , especially John  aka 'hoofing it'  from Falkirk who went way out his way to meet me and supply part I  needed and refused any money whatsoever.

I dont want to sound cheesey but now I realise why these forums are here .

Thanks

Well done on getting it fixed :y
