Title: engine management light
Post by: statuskev on 27 March 2010, 13:27:34
Hi there can anybody help please. I have a 2.0 cdx estate and the engine management light  comes on.When you start it from cold all is fine and the light stays out. If started when hot the light comes on and occasionally the engine has cut out but always restarted. Recently i have replaced the idle valve because of the cutting out .Any help would be appreciated

0340 is a cam sensor fault.

Any other codes?

There is at least one other code in there, as you said 3 and 3 (which is only a partial code.

Repeat the test until the 0340 code appears for the 4th time (each code repeated 3 times before moving on to next one) :y

0335--Crank sensor. 0340--Cam sensor.

Does this mean that both sensors need to be replaced or can they be cleaned. Is it ok to use the car , many thanks

Unusual for both sensors to go at once. On the 4-pot it tends to be the cam sensor and it does sometimes throw other codes. Does it start immediately on the occasions it has cut out. Can you rev the engine past 4-4500rpm

Engine restarts first and revs ok

I`d suspect cam sensor, failing crank sensor would make it a bit of a pig to start especially when hot
