First warm day of the year and notice there is no cold air blowing from the vents. Having checked the compressor, I found it is not engaging even when the climate is turned on. I have checked the fuses in the cabin and they both seem OK, I have also checked for refrigerant by removing the dust cover near the bulkhead and making a brief press on the valve - still some pressure there. Apart from putting 12V across the connector and listening for the clutch to engage on the compressor is there anything else I should check? If it is the compressor I assume it is a complete pig and will cost a fortune?

AFIAK, the compressor wont run if the pressure in the system is low. Just because you got a flow of gas from the fill point, doesn't mean the pressure is high enough i'm afraid. :-/

Aye. AFAIK, on the Omega (if same as Cavalier) there are High and Low Pressure Switches. If the gas pressure is too high or too low, it wont fire the compressor.
On my Cavalier, I knew the A/C was gassed correctly so bypassed the High Pressure Switch as a test and everything worked fine. New switch installed and everything has been ok since.
Unfortunately, these switches seldom fail.
Get the A/C system checked (dont bother with the stupid DIY gas cans) and go from there.

as above you need to get the system checked :y

Will TechII give info on aircon like pressures etc?

no you need to take it to a air-con specialist.
Kwik fit do system checks. :y
