Title: Handbrake adjustment
Post by: clueseau on 09 April 2010, 18:55:35
I've just fitted new anchors to my 2001 V6. They work fine when I want to stop but the handbrake travels too far and it doesn't hold on an incline. Is there an adjustment I have to make to the cable, and if so, how do I do it? :-/

Don't adjust cable alone!

See guide in maint guides section

I had to do this recently, and as TB says, don't just adjust the cable - there's a little more to it than that! Follow the guide - it's excellent  :y

I did mine following the guide the other day and for the first time in 2.5 years (since I had the car), the handbrake actually holds the car...  Just be aware, when you remove the spring from the back plate, if they are old, they may well break when replaced (when you use the hand brake).  IME adjustment of the cable alone will not change the effectiveness of the handbrake (My old cable snapped, so found out when I replaced it).

The nearside of my cable had seized, and that was causing the problems.
