Title: strange whine or whistle... Gearbox perhaps??

Hi

Yesterday I noticed a slight whine/whistle noise and it reduced when slowing down and increased when speeding up - would this be the ATF fluid that's low or needs changing? It's only just started to do it......

one other thing i have noticed is that when at a junction, the car has just slightly started to roll back.... could this all be linked??

drove an omega today with a whistle when on the power, no problem with the gearbox on that one, exhaust maybe?

roll back? first question is how steep is the approach to the junction? they all roll back on a steep enough slope.

when was box last serviced?

Now you mention the exhaust.....  the backbox has just started to blow but the whine/whistle sounds like a jet engine (quietly of course) it's only noticable in the cab of car...

re rollback.... it's on any incline but once again only just started happening...

regarding the servicing of the autobox that i do not know... ive only had the car since sunday and these minor issues have just started to happen!!

this car really has minor/no service history looking through all the paperwork and im not that mechanically minded!!!

Whine could be a wheel bearing possibly?

Alternator bearing?

Water Pump?

Could be a number of things.  Without hearing the noise, it is unfortunately very difficult to say with any degree of accuracy.

I though this might be the case.... i will try and get it to a garage over the next couple of days to see what they say... i just hope nothing to expensive!!
