Title: Cam Cover Damaged..
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 11 April 2010, 19:49:31
I'm doing my cam cover gaskets and the passenger side cover is damaged at the rear lower corner.  The 'channel' that the gasket sits in has broken away, so it's flush from the half moon to the corner.
Will I get away with a shed load of sealent in the area, or should I replace the cover? :-/

I would replace as the gasket has to be held in place under pressure, and if the plastic lip which does so is missing oil is going to leak out no matter how much black sealant is in place.  It would be a bodge, that will not work. ;) ;)

Thanks Lizzie, thought that might be the answer and judging by the amount of sealent used last time, it was bodged then!!

Does anybody have a passenger side camcover for sale??

Thanks Entwood I'll try them :y

I can see how it might have got damaged though as that one is an absolute barsteward to get out ::) ::) and its going to be pretty tricky getting it back in without dislodging the gaskets :( :(

After you've removed the cable tray completely, tie the cables back out of the way with some string, I tied them to the bonnet strut !! The more you get them away the easier it is - I'm assuming you've removed the skuttle as well ??  I wouldn't try it with the scuttle in place .. :(

Aaah! I removed the scuttle but didn't remove the cable tray just pushed it out of the way as far as I could... I'll try that! Thanks :y

Trouble is, I've got so many pipes, wires, plugs and bits and peices disconnected, removed and laid off to the side.... that putting all back together is going to be a bigger challenge!!! ;D ::) :-/
