Title: Windscreen Wiper Judder
Post by: Luzy6 on 08 April 2010, 14:36:14
Can anybody advise me. I have a 3.2 V6 2001 Executive and over the winter my drivers side wiper started to judder. Does anyone know whats wrong with it before I start to pull it to bits.

PS. Its an Opel (lefty) I now live and work in Austria, oh and its been a cold winter.

Thanks

Try swaping the bldes over and see if the other side judders , if it does just get new blades and jobs done.

If you swap the blades you will have to make sure they are not going to catch before you switch them on as they are of unequal lengths. while you have the blades removed it might be an idea to switch them on and see if there is ant judder in the mechanism

Take the plunge & fit flat blades, you won't want to go back to the old type, believe me. :y

Fit a new pair of GM blades, other makes are crap, I have tried them all, including 'flat blades' which are no good over 60mph, DO NOT SWAP, different lenghts.

In your opinion of course? ;) Mine perform silently and correctly up to and occassionally over the speed limit  ::) I can't of course comment on their performance at Autobahn speeds! ;D

OK guys, I changed the blades.... Still a judder on the drives side blade. I removed the arms and the scuttle and associated trim parts and seals. Examined the area for any obvious defects. Found a loose screw on one of the rods... No nut attached. I replaced the plastic screw nut thing and bolted it all back together. Refitted the arms.... still a judder on the drives blade.... >:( They work better but still a judder... any other ideas appart from falking out for a new expensive wiper motor?

Thanks

Oh and that is 130 kph. Whats that about 80 mph. Mine goes like stink. Had it up to 200 kph once but to much traffic and stupid bends. Should do 249 kph I think!  :y

not used polish or rainx or similar on your screen have you?

they can cause judder...

If it was because of polish or something else would it not effect both blades?

I dont use polish but it may get something on from the car wash. They dont like you to wash your cars at home in Austria. Something about contaminating the ground water with soapy diposites and oil. They prefer you to go to a car wash.

could be worth making sure the screen is really clean, good clean with methelated spirits or similar perhaps...

clutching at straws a bit, but if a blade judders, normally time for a new blade.

Screen contamination can also cause judder. So try and rule that out.

Honestly can't think of a 3rd thing to try...

but yes, would expect it to be both sides equally, unless your car wash put too much of something on that side of your screen  :-/

I use Bosch blades from Halfrauds. Quiet as a mouse and smooth as silk.
