Title: Brake pad clips
Post by: MickAP on 27 March 2010, 17:56:16
Are the brake pad spring clips (rear) available as a separate item from the dealer?

Mine have had it, pads and discs are good condition so no need to change them just the clips :y

Yes, as a kit with the pins.

In fact, the ones supplied by dealers (non OE) don't come with them anyway

Just read the "how to" in the maintenace guide for rear brakes......Mark gives a part number as  9192128
so I'll try them with that :y

Thanks

Trade club pads do not, as discovered. In fact i didnt even get the caliper bolts with my front pads either.

go to your lokal motor factor or halfords and they sell it as a kit. new pins and springy plates. :)

The OE pads I bought from Vx dealer didn't have the clips included, but they do sell them seperatley.
I tried a kit from a motor factors but they only listed them for non vented discs.

OE as in the £70 a pair ones? They should come with fitting kit.

The GM 'aftermarket' ones (about £15) don't

The GM 'aftermarket' ones (about £15) don't
oe front £70 with bolts on tc
oe rear £45 with springs and pins on tc
both not listed though

trade club front £14 with bolts (except mine) (or £74 with discs)
trade club rear (£?)  no spring and pins.

I assumed they were OE, bought from a dealer in GM packaging, I think they were about £45 for front & rear sets.

They are GM 'aftermarket' rather than GM OE.  Still very good pads (compared to many aftermarket pads from the autoshops), but not so robust against abusive driving ::)

Good try BOY,

the pins alone cost £11.50 at local VX dealer.

Guide price would be £19.00 / set complete & delivered

£17.00/set  for 10 sets delivered

hard to beat at that price.

ENTWOOD.

Are you saying that the forum is not  a place where "omega" OWNERS GATHER TO HELP EACH OTHER.

If offering cheap genuine G.M. parts  to other members is not allowed,
then what is the point of a "HELP"  forum

I will keep  an eagle eye on this one for sure !!

Just try reading the site rules .... something you agreed to when you joined ... but then you joined for different reasons to the rest of us IMHO .. :)

BTW .. rules are at the top of every section .. but in case you can't find them ..

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?virboard=general;num=1209458172

I think paragraphs 4, 5, 6 are a good start .. :)

ENTWOOD,

but then you joined for different reasons to the rest of us IMHO

Your  honest opinion is totally incorrect.. ..and cynical.

Having come across  brand new cheap,  and genuine G.M. parts whilst searching for parts for my own OMEGA,   surely it makes sense to offer  them cheap to other OMEGA owners on this forum.

You will not find this offer on any other Forum, as this is the only forum i have joined.

Also, pads that i have sold already to existing Forum  members have been very much appreciated.

If rules are being broken, then that is  an error on my part,
which was not my intention, but i do take exception to your promiscuous conclusion.

6 posts .. all trying to sell something against the site rules ...  I think my opinion is valid.

interesting use of english ... not sure I understand the context however ...  http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/promiscuous

Well, against the rules or against the spirit of the rules it maybe, but I for one, am very grateful to Klickster.

Contacted him by pm, paid via paypal, pads arrived at my house the next day.  good service and perfect pads.  He even took the time to pm me afterwards to make sure they had arrived and to make sure I did not have any problems with them  :y

You make your own choices in life, and I am glad I chose to contact him having come here for help on several occasions, and had nothing but good responses/advice/assistance.

Sorry, it does break the rules - rightly or wrongly.  Hence, post modified, and a close eye kept on thread.

Last set of rears I bought (admittedly about 2yrs ago) were around £10, and the clip/pin set about £5, from dealer on TC (clips/pins not TC, but get at trade price)

hi there, "theboy"

just a word to say .."no sweat" on editing/deleting the Ebay link from the "brake pad post" as you are quite right..rules is rules.

Just a shame others have abused the forum in the past, as that prevents real help  as we now can see.

Indeed.  The current rules have been implemented as the best way forward given the resources (human and software) we have.

Not specifically on this forum. I think lessons were learned form elsewhere where a member joined A N Other forum and had various harder to find parts for sale. A lot of the forum members were left without parts & cash. The minimum posts rule is there to try to get a feel for new members before others part with their hard earned cash  ;) Unfortunately now, as you say, all new comers are tarred with the same brush.  :(

That is not what we are trying to create, but is a sad side effect of how we are having to run things.

But we don't all have TC.

I know how much these pins/clips cost  :o I've just bought some.
And even if you had the ABS club discount, the pins/clips are not discounted, so the dealer told me.

So to me these are a very good buy.

But yes I suggested in an earlier post about the link :-/

In that case, I suggest people look on ebay ;D

The forum rules do state will cannot provide links to our own auctions, or that members without enough posts to post in For Sale can post items for sale in other areas.

I reckon the rules need tweaking to stop friends posting links to other OOF member's ebay auctions as well ;)

It's no skin off my nose cos I've only ever sold 3 or 4 items on eBay, but I can't see the harm in posting links to your own auction. Not much different IMO from a 'for sale' thread here.

OOF is not here to provide a free promotion service for your ebay items.

Do you think, for example, autotrader would accept an ad that just pointed you to an ebay ad? ;)

But I asked about these particular parts on say ABS discount card (is that TC?) sorry for sounding a bit thick, and they said no, they don't discount them.

NON TC parts, its up to the dealer what price they sell them for.  Every dealer I have used has sold me non TC parts at trade price, regardless of whether I use my genuine Tradeclub card or my (now expired) ABS card.

Just finished  doing rear  discs and pads on my "NEW" 80,000 mile 2001 OMEGA 2.2 AUTO.

That was real fun !!..previous owner/s should have done  that years ago.

everything  nearly seized solid,

Pins needed drilling out, and heads flew off into  a hedge when eventually dislodged,  springs fell apart at the same time.

Thank heavens for the forum online picture show (i dont have a  HAYNES )..... as i havent had so much trouble since trying to get a set of drums off a 1966 Ford Anglia  when i was a kid.....long time ago now !!
ha ha !!

Suggest anyone needing to change rear pads ...if you dont know the car too well, check  the pins and clips  before you start.

good advice

klickster  ;) :y
