Hi all,
For a while now, I've been getting a very slight petrol smell when I come to a stop, and the engine is just idling. Nothing at all when the car is in motion, just when you come to a stop, even if there are no cars around. Does not seem to be any difference if the blowers are on high or low. Have checked obvious places around fuel pipes etc. and no sign of leakage, no drip marks under the car, seems to happen less on a longer run. Any suggestions? V6 2.6 - Cheers :y

If blowers on and off make no difference, I would sniff a little around top of the tank (fuel pump).

Remove the tank sender inspection cover from the boot floor and have a look at the pipes on the tank top plate.

Cheers, both - I'll take a look when the rain stops! :)

Check that the fuel filter isn't leaking :y

Had the same on a Vectra once.Did my nut in for ages and eventually I sourced it to the filler cap. While the fuel is still sloshing about after a run, stop the car and have a sniff around. I wasn't 100% but replaced the cap for a new one anyway and solved the problem instantly :y

Cheers - that's worth a try too.....
Fuel filter was replaced a couple of months ago, so I guess it's worth a check.... don't want to waste any petrol, the price it is right now!!! :y

Sorted this now - noticed that the rubber seal between the filler neck and bodywork had perished - Managed to obtain a replacement from the Dark Side (thanks DLK :y) and the smell has gone. :y
