Title: Engine management light
Post by: coastie123 on 15 April 2010, 17:30:47
Hi again..

A few of you may remember me asking a question in a previous post of regarding the engine management light not lighting with the ignition..

After spending 45 minutes taking the dash apart to Change the bulb it still does not light when I turn the ignition on....

I am now thinking it's a fuse somewhere....

And my question now is..... Which fuse is it and which fusebox!!!!!!!!

Help would greatfully be appreciated...

Regards

shaun

Hi guys, sorry to bump this topic but I am scratching my head on what it could be, does anyone have any ideas??

I cannot get my hands in to disconnect the info display panel, is there an easier way to do this or check for anything else?? I spoke to the local stealer who advised me a full engine diagnostics check on my car would be £90 which I do not have!!

I have also noticed the seatbelt light not lighting....

I am now starting to think this car I going to cost me more than I paid for it!!!!

I dont know if the panels are the same as my Mini Facelift, but you should have one connector behind the Multi-Display.

It has a locking connector, you need to 'swing' the locking mechanism upwards IIRC and the plug should come away with ease.

Centre Vents removed should reveal one screw, and there is a second screw just above the steering cowl.

Remove both screws, and the panel should slide out enough for even the largest of hands to access the MID connector.  :y

the only trouble i have is trying to disconnect the MID connector, i will have another go in the morning...

apart from the bulb which i have now found out is working fine, what else could it be?? would it be a problem with the ECU or could it be a problem with the small PCB on the back of the bulb connectors?? every other bulb as far as im aware are working correctly... which other bulbs am i suppose to get showing?? could someone post a picture for me so i can double check??

Just an update..

I managed to get the display disconnected changed bulb again and this spanner light still will not light with the ignition..

I tried a paperclip test and the engine picture flashed a 12, 31, 12 with the engine off and flashed a 12 then another 12 with the engine running so no worries there!!!

The only things that are puzzling me still are the spanner light still not illuminating on the ignition and I have now found some fuses missing in the fuse box under the steering column..

4 - cooling fan
6 - radio (although it works)
8 - daylight running lamps ( not needed)
10 - heated diesel fuel filter (petrol car so not worried)
24 - coolant heating
27 - level control (guess this is suspension)
35 - blank so not worried there either

can anyone shed some light please!!!

I may be wrong but I think only the 2.2,2.6 & 3.2 had the "spanner" light operative. As your "engine" symbol is flashing the codes it would appear to be the case with your car that the "spanner" light is disabled. The "engine" symbol on the 2.2,2.6 & 3.2 relates to emissions. My last mig was a facelift 2.0CDX with no "spanner" light

my previous car which was a 2002 2.2 cdx auto had the spanner light working which started this thread when I didn't see it working..

Would someone with a 2000/2001 2.5 v6 confirm this please???

Very useful information.

I hope coastie123 got everything back together.
You have my sympathies sir, if, as would appear, you embarked on a wild goose chase.
