Considering options, can anyone please give me an idea of MPG on;
Tractor auto or 2.2 petrol auto, thanks..... :y
How reliable are the tractor units, any problems to look for?
-
Also how is a 2.2 to drive, is it very much better than the 2.0L which I am familiar with.... :question
-
I have both, but the tractor ia a manual.
Tractor 33mpg short local runing around type journeys.
2.2 petrol around 22mpg, should be more but I've not used it for a few weeks, so now warmer weather will be better, I hope.
On longer motorway type runs I get 44-46mpg and between 34-36mpg respectively.
Hope this helps, your auto tractor will be a little less than my manual :y
Mick ;)

I can't comment on the difference between the 2.0 & 2.2 Vamps, all I can say is I find mine to be comfortable & well mannered, if a little sedate around town (although that could just be me being miss daisy? :D). She can however, pick up her skirts when pushed and handles very well at speed on twists & turns and cornering.
As for MPG?, I do mainly short journeys in town traffic at peak times taking the wife shopping, grand kids to school etc (3-4 miles, hour wait, 3-4 miles back) with one 70 mile run to hospital in Newcastle every week. The school pickup journeys in the afternoon are done using the 'lunatic button', that's the Sport button to you & me! ::) , because my youngest granddaughter insists on it! ;D and I regularly return 23-24 mpg. :y

Yea right..... :D :D :D
Thinking about changing my main car, lease is up in August so have to be making my mind up ::) ::)
I worry about the high maintenance of V6 and I really don't need high speed.
Other consideration is MPG, currently averaging 45ish but can get much more on a run. However there is a new add on the forum which made me think of a gas conversion :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
swmbo says I can't make decisions all by myself.. ::) ::) ::)

What year is/was your 2.0?
If pre 1998 then its quite a different lump
-
father tunnies average mpg is 32, before i replaced the battery that had never been reset as far as i know!
My manual averages little more at 34mpg on petrol
-
Our previous '99 mini-facelift 2.0 auto managed 24/25 mpg around here on short hops.
Mid-30s on a nice motorway cruise, and 22mpg towing the caravan.
Mrs Sethsmate loved it, and she made judicious use of the sports mode!
Saying that, she's very happy with the latest tractor too!
:y
-
Lucky to get 20mpg around town on mine - short journey to work. On the motorway i get low 30s. I would recommend the tractor or if you want a petrol go for a 2.5 min. as the mpg is about the same as a 2.2

Current is 1998 previous was 1995.. :)

Not sure about the auto, but on my manual I usually get around 40 mpg on open road, highway around 37 to 38 and around 23-25 in heavy town traffic.
If you are used to 2.o this one will be similar just a little more grunt in it.
Nice to drive but you have to rev it quite high if you need to overtake

If you go down that route, as I hopefully am ::), then I hope you have better luck getting in touch with Teilo than me!!! :(
If this guy is trying to build an LPG Empire, then he should be paying more attention to its foundations IMHO ::) :y

I was thinking of fitting LPG if I get another Omega to use as my everyday car, however not so sure having just read another thread looks like it could cost around 2k.....need to do the maths.... ::) ::)

2k? :o, Nothing like that with DIY Vamps! The boys on here reckon about £600ish for a V6 & £500ish for a 4 pot if using a cylinder tank in the boot. You can probably add another £200 or so to that if you want a vertical tank in the spare wheel well though :(
There are plenty of 'howto's' and a wealth of ready knowledge at hand on the Forum too :y

And would buy one tomorrow if I found a Mint one, fab engine, ultra reliable, 90K cam belt changes, been there done that and the cheapest car to maintain I have ever had. Even 4 pot Migs have cost more, with all the sensors that go wrong..... :D :D :D
