Title: serviced 2 cars and did not shear any bolts!
Post by: tunnie on 28 December 2007, 14:53:41
well today and yesterday i serviced my dads 2.2, gave it an oil change, and put on a new Aux belt. Also changed the oil and filter in mine, fill up the washer fluid bottles generally poke around, give the breathers a good clean, so all set for the rest of the winter, did not shear any bolts  :o :o

Thats a first  ;D

Decided to take the waste oil down the tip, never knew i built up so much, I had 11 x 5L bottles & a 30L drum! all full of old oil!

Thats 85L of waste oil  :o :o

Or around 17 oil changes  :-/

Can't remember last time i did it, must have had some other peoples oil in there too  :-/

Well done...

But what about the air filter? pollen filter? fuel filter....? surely you don't believe in Vx's quoted 2-years service intervals?  ::)

Did not have any of that in the garage! so just used what i had.

I really should do both fuel filters on both mine and my dads, I have never changed mine in 4 years of ownership  :o

Low mpg... power loss... possible hesitation... if it is in a bad state it might affect the idle, but typically it is full-throttle behaviours that will suffer first.

..and get the clips (two per filter) while you are at it, just in case you break the old ones.

Order the clips, but also check that they are not already included in the filter box when you collect.  Last two I bought had the clips in there already....

No matter what improvements are made, as I have a garage full of sh1te, I'll either have to either buy a snorkel & flippers to work outside on my drive or wait for the weather to improve - a lot! It's not stopped raining here since Christmas Day.

As others have said, buy the clips as well, as they go brittle. Hopefully, you won't notice any difference with the new filter - if you do, it shows you have not been maintaining properly.  Also, change the air filter, as I bet that is over a year old now (I remember doing it!)

I'm surprised the guy never tried to charge you money for dumping commercial waste :D
