Hi guys,
Today on 2 seperate occasions I had an alarm type noise go off whilst I was driving.
It started as one or 2 beeps, then turned into a full alarm type siren noise - but was not overly loud.
The noise stopped almost as soon as it started, lasting aprox 2 mins from the first 'beeps' to the siren noise ended.
The 2 occasions were seperated by the car being parked whilst we were out shopping (happened once when we were on our way out to the shops, then once when we were on our way home).
Hope this isnt some expensive fault in the making.

sounds like the batteries are dying in the powersounder. ;)

Whats a power sounder? does it not run off the car battery?
Where is it and how do I change the batteries?

How can I stop it overnight to stop neighbours moaning at me?
Thanks guys

just unplug it. your alarm has another horn that goes off once triggered, this is just a back up siren in case someone disconnects the car battery. its powered by nicad batterys which are usually soldered to the circuit board inside the sounder itself . not impossible but very difficult to replace. Its located under the rain scuttle (drivers side) a square shapped plastic box. it may go off once you unplug it for a few minutes till the batteries in it are totally drained off.
Think new ones cost about £50 odd pounds new.. i didnt bother replacing mine.. hope this helps :y

im not sure but i think a how to was done for replacing the batteries. :y

some can be replaced, some cannot.
one things for sure....dont leave it connected like this, as youve discovered, its annoyingm but can get worse as sometimes they sponteneously combust! great fun >:(

A further thought!
Once the powersounder is out this link may be helpful, but you'll need a little skill with a soldering iron. Alternatively you could buy a replacement powersounder from your local stealer for circa.£60'ish

Thanks to all, but special thanks to Lee (welung) for giving me some top tips at 10:45 last night and robbo 249 for his excellent how to guide here on the forum.
All you guys are saviours.
the offending component was removed, and squaked for about a minute and died - now resting in the hedge!!! - only joking - its in the garage where it will probably spend the rest of its days (didnt see much point in putting it back in).
Wires all taped up snug as a bug etc.
