Thinking of buying from a friend who has owned car from new!

Nice car, esp if mileage is genuine. Better in manual form, as tad small engine for auto, but depends on your needs.
Forget the stupid 20k oil changes recommended by dealer, go for much shorter ones.
2.2 is a usually reliable lump - cam sensors fail, and HGs occasionally fail.
40k/4yr cambelt interval, change full kit and waterpump. Dead easy to do on that engine.
Price - really depends on condition, but I'd say £1500-£2k with that mileage

a known history and problems (if exists) is a very good starting point..
however, if you want extra performance dont neglect V6 models.. :y
