Hi engine management light been on dash constantly now for few weeks so took it to get code read at my local unhelpful garage whose advice was sell it - but its only done 69k with FVSH from new. Anyone any ideas what these could be - cat looks likely from a quick browse of other posts but would prefer definitive answer. More detail from code reader is
P0170 Fuel trim system mixture lean
P0036 HO02S Heated Oxygen sensor
P0141 02 Sensor heater circuit open
Any ideas / £s to sort appreaciated

Hi and welcome
Your on the best place for advice ....
Is it possible for you to get live data for your car .... near any members on here with a Tech 2 or "My Naff Code Reader" that can get values for O2 sensors , maf etc :y
-
Fill in your location on your profile so we know where you are ... you may be near someone with the proper diagnostic gear :y
-
Fill out your profile to see if someone near you is willing to stick a code reader on it ;)
And don't use that garage again, they obviously do not know their backside from their elbow

Listen Guys - thanks for advice - but I've bottled it and P/ex'd it for a golf. Shame there's plenty of life left in it and drives superb

Bit extreme for a cheap fix (most likely a lamda sensor, £70) :o
Who knows what faults lurk in the new car....
Good luck with the new car :y

Mmm ... surely would have been worth a quick tech 2 session with someone who knows how to use it :-/

i pmd the person, i had the same fault on my 2.2 and today, i finaly cured it.
a non specific problem, P0170 but didnt say what the cause was, lucky i have 2 in stock, so in order, i swapped the egr valve, the MAF, and the front 02 sensors over, no change.
tried the rear o2 sensor, bingo!!
now got the 2.2 running mint, for the cost of a 2 minute part change.
my findings come a day too late to save this owner from losing a car :(
got a city rover running lumpy with the same symptoms and fault diagnosis, going to try 02 valve on tues, if it works, i have a cheap 22k mile 05 plate for sale if any one wants a cheapy for their mrs, although not everyones cup of t!

i am guessing this guy joined just for technical, which i have done on other sites like the mg owners sites and stuff, all forums are handy. this one has to be the most informative with all the how too guides etc tho! :)
