I've changed one before ... about 4yrs (well ..... maybe 4 & half yrs ago) but I've question..... :-/
The lower eccentric tensioner on a 3.0 car :-/ what's it do? I know you could obviously say it tensions the cam belt, but as the last 2.6/3.2 cars have a fixed bearing it implies that it doesn't do that much.
The top/middle eccentric tensioner times 1 & 2 cams to 3 & 4 cams but I can't see what the relevance of the lower eccentric is.
What am I missing :-? :-? :y

The lower one sets cams 3/4 into the correct position in relation to the crank - althoug as you say, on the later DBW cars, it's fixed-position :y

It's on the slack side of the belt, so it doesn't really have a bearing/influence on the 3/4 cam timing. :-/ :-/

It's on the slack side of the belt, so it doesn't really have a bearing/influence on the 3/4 cam timing. :-/ :-/
Try turning the arrow away from the (approx) 1pm position... you'll notice cams 3/4 don't line up with the timing gauge anymore... so I'd say it does influence timing? (Or should I say, the tension set by the adjustment on that concentrc idler, adjusts the timing on 3/4 bank? )

Crank rotates clockwise viewed from the front so it's the tight side of the belt. :y

I've thought about it .. you're right, it's not on the slack side is it, it's on the tension side ... which is why the sprung tensioner is on the other side of the crank. :y

The wind got up too much ... Jimbob didn't call ;D ... so I called it a day. I just need the plenum & the throttle cable fitting now. I'll finish it Monday :y

with the later cars, with set bottom idler, i wondered why the top middle idler cant be set as well? only setting needed would be tension....
machine tolerances perhaps...? :-/

just point i was thinking of buying one of those lazer kits is there a problem with them as i have to look at an oil that is suspect from the camshaft seal

I don't know the cut off point, but it's been mentioned that some cars have a fixed lower pulley. Perhaps yours did .... ::)
