Title: Injector / Fuel System Cleaner recommendations
Post by: wayneywoo on 04 May 2010, 15:16:27
Hey all,

I'm a bit dubious about all these injector cleaners and fuel system cleaners on the market.  Do they actually do anything?

Went in to my local car parts store yesterday to have a look and there are quite a few to choose from.

The guy in the store recommended Wynns Dry Fuel to be the best out there at the minute.  I've read on here STP and then there's Redex which the store owner said has been passed by better alternatives.

So, anyone have any experience with a product that they believe has actually made any noticable difference?

Also, Carb Cleaner.  Is this ok to spray in to the air intake to give the engine insides a clean without damaging the cat?

Thanks all!

you can use sound vibration cleaning also..

I tried and found really effective.. and you can see the actual injector spray patterns..

but obviously will cost more time and money..

and there are also other expensive cleaners that they connect an apparatus to the engine..but for high mileage engines I cant recommend as the valves can start to leak after the removal of crud..

Sonic cleaning is probably the best if the injectors are bad. Forte gas treatment is my preferred in-tank additive.

I've used Forte Advanced Formula Gas Treatment before and it seems good. The question I've got, is should you also use the Specialist Injector Cleaner?

Cheers,

Rob.

I've always found petrol to be a pretty good solvent/cleaner.  :D

well if it helps, I once used a tin of forte fuel treatment in my old TVR, the car ran a l0t smoother but didnt cure the fault, so i hour after using forte i stripped the engine to find the fault, result? beleive it or not you could see where the forte had been all through the inlets, (V6) and even through the valves!!!! was very impressed me and me mate, so never used anything else on a petrol motor!! it does what it says on the tin!!!

How's about this one?

I've just emptied a can and half of Carburettor cleaner in to the air intake through the larger breather hose and for the first time since I've owned the car, I've noticed that at idle, my consumption dropped to 0.2ltrs/hr.

What do other people get for consumption at idle?

I get 0.2 with air-con off, 0.3 with air-con on.
