Title: More noises
Post by: yorkipud on 02 May 2010, 20:59:19
Hi All
really enjoying the 3.0lt v6 and slowly working my way through all the noises, and the good thing is the cars getting lighter, removed the alarm sounder as it was going off all the time, disconnected the secondary air pump as sounded like a hovercraft starting but now a new noise has my attention this time from the drivers side sounds like a pump/motor going getting noisy on start up it settles down after a while but does come back from time to time. any help for things to look for very welcome, sorry to be vague my cars 98 elite estate cheers Neil

Think it could be your suspension level compressor it's located near enough under the drivers side foglamp, hope this helps :y :y

check the auxillary belt tensioner (top left pulley as you look at the engine)  :y

Thanks, the cars had new belts and tensioners, and it is more of a motor noise, I did wonder if it was the head light self leveling motor didnt think about the suspension because I thought that it only did the rear, is this an expensive job then or can they go on for a while been noisey ? I know its an old car but I kind of hoped that not everything would go all at once.

It does only do the rear suspension but the pump is located up front

Sounds like the self-leveling pump; but it shouldn't go for more than a few minutes after start-up or a load change.
