Title: Exhaust Emissions warning light on for 2 minutes
Post by: Spike on 18 February 2010, 10:03:26
Hiya,

I have a 2.2 DTI 16V 51 plate Omega Estate. The Exhaust Emissions warning light (the little picture of the engine) is currently staying illuminated for the first 2 minutes or so of a journey. This clearly isn't right... Any ideas what to do where to look? (It's only been doing it for the last day or so)

I gave it a bit of an Italian Tune Up on the way home last night, but the problem was still there this morning.

One thing that may be connected is that I've seen about a 10% fall in fuel economy over the last couple of months or so. (Low 40s mpg has dropped to high 30s).. I had put this down to the cold weather.... But that may have been a bad call... :(

Cheers

You need to get the codes read. Add your location to your profile, there may be someone local who can do it for you :y

Have updated my profile... I'm in the York\Leeds area if someone has a reader and would like some beer tokens....

Think I can see why this is happening, but not what's causing it... If you see what I mean.

I'm a bit "blue smokey" after start up. Once it's warm/hot it's as clean as a whistle. I guess I'm getting some smoke through the system that's upsetting the emissions, but this is clearing after a bit and the emissions light's going off. Get the fault codes read tomorrow all being well...

Never effectively got the code read as it was not present once the warning light was off  :( Driving to the garage effectively ensured the light would be off by the time I got there. D'oh!

Anyways I've found the cause... Glow plugs! Clearly they had started to fail and I was getting a warning light... The car had been taking a bit longer to start. Came to a head on Monday when it wouldn't start at all. Replaced the glow plugs last night. Starts really easily again and no warning light any more  :)

Looks like all 4 had gone by Monday as they all measured open circuit... Ooops!  :-[
