sounds like the bearing is getting dry. so i would say it will need replacing before it causes an other damage.
other members could have better tips on what to do though.

think mine is shot to, rattles like mad when you push the clutch in fine when its released, and now the clutch slipping sometimes as well.

Does it sound like metal on metal clatter? If so it could be the dual mass flywheel :(

Where abouts in the West Mids are you mate?

Think my 2.2dti will need a new Clutch very soon, and I would appreciate advice or help doing it.
I don't have the right access equipment to do it myself.
If I can't find someone who is good at it then I might have to go to the VX dealer :-(

I'm in Dudley Si, right next to Merry Hell. I have everything you'll need to change it if you fancy a day over here I'll help you. Or if you'd rather just get it done, then I'll gladly do it for you :y

rattling when clutch down is for sure the DMF!!! the only other thing it could possibly be is worn splines on the actual centre plate, and that is usually caused by reconditioned clutch plates,
(had this twice on customer cars) so be warned people don not buy recon clutch plates!!!

I can do better than that ;) When Bertie and I took my clutch pressure plate off it was in 2 pieces! The 3 support springs had gone completely. I've got a slightly used 4 part clutch kit if anyone needs it ;D

OUCH! Sounds just like mine did. Definately dual mass flywheel and a clutch kit needed.

Put your reg in and look on clutch parts for both parts :y
