whilst driving home from work tonight I sank the pedal to the metal (tally tune up)and all hell broke loose.
The engine runs smooth not over heating idles silent but when reved its like I could only describe as metal rasping sound around the turbo area.
any ideas :y

Could be the EGR pipe connection with the exhaust manifold.
-
Could be the stainless steel EGR pipe fractured
Mine has done this twice now

Guess whats getting blanked off then :y
Cheers chaps

I've blanked mine off at both ends with ten pence coins. No black smoke under acceleration now!

I started with two pence coins, they fit fine too, but was worried about corrosion.

The first time it went at the EGR valve end, the second was at the other. I have replaced mine on 2 occasions
What is the effect of blanking it off?? It must be there for a purpose!

Can this be done on a 2.2 dti engine?
Or ONLY a 2.5tdi ?
(BLANKING OFF EGR)

not to sure about the 2.2 i'm just back from Edinburgh and the 2.5td was great cruised ok just a wee bit smokey (to much 2 stroke in fuel oops) and the mpg was a bit better.
some say the diesel does rely on the egr for cruising personaly i'll see how it runs over the next month or 2.
plus I tinkered with the boost valve turbo kicks in around 1100rpm :y
