Title: Fuel display
Post by: John Lewis on 14 May 2010, 14:15:22
Hi all just a quick one - what's causing the fuel display to be wrong on my mig? Sometimes it says 20 miles left, sometimes it says 0? Restarting the car has this effect.

Also the fuel needle doesn't flash red when low, it just stays solid red, is this normal on a 97/R? My last migs needle light flashed when running low but that was a 98/S?

Also I've ran out of fuel on a few occasions down to the display being wrong, could this have started my misfire?

Thx in advance dudes!

Range is dictated by gauge reading v recent driving style.

Light should come on at about 1.8g in tank, and will flash a approx 2l left.

OK but if the cars stationary and it reads 20miles then 0miles on the turn of a key why is it? And why also would the gauge not flash ever? Is this fuel filter or summat?

Taking it to zero after starting - do other statistics on the MID retain their memory?

Can someone with a early prefacelift remind me if the light flashes, or if thats a function of the programmable units fitted from 98 onwards

Yes mate its only the fuel readout, stopwatch/temp/everything else continue to work as they should. Weird one I thought I'd throw out there, like!

My96 just used to go solid orange between 10 litres and 0 litres. My99 goes solid orange the same but starts flashing at 30 miles range.

Could it be the sender arm in the tank bent out a touch so it's not contacting properly or completely fubar?

I see, so its prob normal on an early 97 car then to have solid orange, cheers for that. So what about the display? The fuel needle is correct on the dash, just the display that's showing the oddness. Its good fun when you're on the motorway and a bit low, you never know when its gonna run out!
