Title: dismantling door mirrors

Is there an easy way to get the colour coded bits off of facelift mirrors?, ive got two to paint & dont fancy breaking the plastic. :y

The Mini Facelift coloured bit does come off, so I assume the Facelift ones must do too.
I would think that vauxhall would make loads of mirrors and put on the colour trim to suit the customer :y

I think they are just clipped on ;) If you break the clips Sikaflex is a brilliant answer ;) ;D

I didn't trust myself by dismantling the mirror so masked the black bits off which only took a couple of minutes then rubbed down, sprayed, rubbed down, 4 coats of spray then finished off with glossy clear laquer, stepped back & admired my handy work  8-)

It's normally at that point you notice that a 4 1/2 stone bluebottle lands on it ;D

yup i think thats the way i`ll have to go, just thought it would be a tidier job getting them off, ive also got a sheered mounting screw thats rusted in, im just hoping the soaking in battery acid does the trick. :y

dont say that welung, a pigeon crapped on a bumper i had just sprayed once, no fun having to rub it all down again. :'( :'(

Heat them up with air dryer so they are not cold as the clips will break then gently get a wide bladed  Knife and prise off jobs a good un 4 clips i think

I was lucky, picked up a pair of complete mirrors in the right colour from ebay for £20 then just bolted them on..... too late now but always worth a look on ebay.

I managed to strip one down once, but the next time I Chickened out, too brittle. I masked it off and got a perfect job, not worth the gamble in my opinion.

If you take the glass out first you can get to the clips with some needle nose pliers. Come off dead easy.

Getting the glass out can be tricky if it hasn't moved for a while. Might end up cracking it.
