Title: Rear Shocks..
Post by: robbo299 on 17 May 2010, 19:23:21
Changed my front brake pads and sensors today and while the car was up in the air i noticed quite a leak from my n/s rear shock absorber. I have the self levelling type at the moment and have been told replacement quite costly. Been told it may be possible to fit normal shocks as a replacement. Anyone confirm this?

yes it is possible to put normal shocks on the car.. i have self leveling but the previous owner mounted normal shocks, because the self leveling sensor broke. if you want to mount normal shocks i am verry interested in the sensor since you won't be using it :)

just pull the fuse for the self level compressor, it's the only thing it feeds. I don't know why you'd want to disable such a useful feature as self levelling suspension for the effort of replacing the sensor though. Or is that just cos I use mine while towing?  ;)

I will be replacing Mrs Loo-knee's suspension on her Elite Estate for None Self Leveling Rob...

It depends what you want really.... I think it comes in for the Guys & Gals towing as the rear lifts up to keep the car level...

If not towing I don't really see any benefit personally. I just don't like the "Boaty Feel" of an elite :y

But that's not specifically due to being Elite. Elites are intended to be softly sprung to give the soft ride of a large car. I loved the Comfort setting of my Senator's 'ride control'  suspension ..... THAT was 'boaty'

I like the MV6 feel, or Steinmetz spring feel, or Irmscher spring feel. To me Elites are Boaty I'm afraid ;)

you didn't understood me.. i don't have it now because the old owner broke the sensor and i was asking robbo299 for his sensor if he was going to disable it :). the price of self leveling shock absorbers is tripple so i guess that is the main reason he wants to disable them :)

I did understand you, your level sensor is goosed, so you want to know whether to fit standard rear shockers instead of repairing the level sensor.  ;)

Afraid it all comes down to costs really plus the fact i have no intention of towing anything and dont even have a tow bar fitted. My n/s rear shock is leaking and i need it replacing. I`m going to change the pair so two "normal" shocks are going to be fitted. Did my front brake pads and sensor yesterday and add the cost of shocks and its been a heavy week this week.  So all i have to do is remove the fuse to the self level compressor then. If i manage to get the sensor off ok Boditza i will pm you.  :y

i already have normal shocks because the previous owner mounted them, and i want to repair it. I also have 1 good adjustable shock absorber and i need another good one (@robbo299). i will be w8ing for your pm with a price for the sensor and a fprice for the good shock adjustable shock absorber.

p.s. i live in romania so if we do the deal i will pay with paypal and you will have to ship internationaly inside eu:)
