Posting in Gen chat, as it's not car related.
I have a PC tower (without monitor) sat here doing nothing. It's too good to throw in the bin because it works perferctly,
It's an Athlon (maybe an XP) 1200, with 700mb+ Ram, and a whopping great 8GB hard drive. Currently running Windows XP without a problem. It has a clean XP SP2 install, and the latest versions of Zonealarm personal firewall and AVG antivirus, so it's free from nasties and ready to use.
It has a CD writer, and a AGP graphics card for 2 monitors. Onboard Lan, sound, and 2 x USB.
Whilst no longer a particularly high performance machine, it would be perfect for Kids to do coursework etc on, and will handle general internet use / word processing blah.. with no fuss.
Note that in order to remain legitimate you would need your own copy of Windows licence.
£50 + £6.99 PnP to anyone who's interested. :)

If you had asked last week, i would have jumped at the chance :P

I've had it sat in the hallway for months, I'm fed up with tripping over it! I've fired it up and updated all the patches etc, it's fine :)

I just checked it out.
If the PC is less than 10kg, PnP is £18.99....
If it's more, its £26.99...

Am I asking too much? If it's not worth anything, please let me know and I'll just chuck it in the skip, I won't be offended! I just hate seeing things go to waste...

Sorry James, I can't give away 2.4G P4s, so a crappy old Athlon....

Your not asking the right people then, throw it on e-bay, i am sure you will get something for it :y :y

If its a genuine retail XP licence, thats worth a few quid. The hardware is worth nothing.
I have been skipping P4s for over a year as I cant give them away.
Got the old OOF server sat here (3G P4 I think), but I wouldn't give that away, as it is tired, need to take that down the skip soon.

At the school I work in, we skip ALL our computers every two years or so. No one can take them home as we destroy the hard drives. (Unlike banks, IR etc)

but you could always put a new Hard drive in there, and all would be fine then surely??

same reasons charities won't take them - if someone gets a shock etc afterwards, they become liable...

Not economically viable. Have you any idea how much damage a curious 7 year old can do to a computer. Leave them alone for five minutes and they are right into the system menu and doing some very weird things to it.

You won't sell it (worthless), and charities can't take it as discussed earlier. So bin it.
We all drive bloody great cars, so are hardly 'greenies'

I use a waste product for fuel - it isn't one of these stupid hybred cars which pollute while being made, and big cars last longer than small ones.
I tend to run stuff as long as possible

I use a waste product for fuel
Still burns hydrocarbons

I expect you are, what I like is that true greenies think that the greenest car is an existing one and that a good example is an old Land Rover on used cooking oil, and bottom of list is Piriouses and similar stuff

Better used in cars than flared
