Title: 2.5 cdx top end make over
Post by: terry on 27 May 2010, 21:36:33
Head overhaul , gaskets stem seals the works. my question is regarding pipes on exaust manifolds rooted from secondary air pump valve, as this pump can be discarded as not really required , and as i have the top end stripped down to the block, can these pipes be taken out of commission and plugged of. also any advice on lapping valves in thanks in advance Terry

Just remove the pipes and the hoses that are left just use two old wheel bolt and press them into the clear ends of the two short hoses and use the original clips. Job done.

What I have done tha works well is... the two pipes come out of the exhaust manifold then join another pipe that comes towards the front of the car. Well about an inch forward of the front small pipe cut it off and weld the hole up on both sides. You can then do away with the SAI. You can also remove the EGR to but you will need to make a small plate for the plenum :y

They are like handles when they have been cut down like this which helps to refit the heads :y

Or you can get the 2.6/3.2 manifolds and fit them  ;)

Thanks gents, any pointers on lapping in valves as they are coming out anyway to renew seals. also carbon on piston crowns, years back i would remove but leave a ring round circumfrance of the piston / 114k on clock bores have no signs of wear, should i hone them up prior to refitting the heads?
