Title: leaky rocker box gasket
Post by: v6fletch on 28 May 2010, 22:19:17
i know its a common problem but can anybody give me an idea how to cure this  please? the passengerside cover is leaking,it was changed 2 weeks ago as the rocker box had a crack in it,a new cover was fitted ,all sealed up an was fine ...for 2 weeks, now its blowing oil from between the plastic cover and the head.its annoying when u pull into the garage to fuel up an the lasses run round like headless chickens in fear that the station might go up in flames.any help ,if anyone has a cure would be more than helpfull.
thanx, a rather cheesed of fletch
ps ive removed the oil filler cap an the engine isnt breathing ,so im sure its not pressurising etc causing the gaskets to leak.

Without stating the obvious, it needs redoing correctly

it was done by a qualified vauxhall/opel mechanic

So, are you saying that the qualified mechanic did the gaskets WITHOUT cleaning out the breathers?

A blocked breather system is the probable cause of the gaskets failing.

i wouldnt know , i left it at the garage so didnt have my head under the bonnet, but was assured the breathers were cleaned,i have no reason to doubt the mechanic.

Ok, I understand now. So, if you have paid a garage to do the job what have they said about their work only having lasted a fortnight?
